WaterScapes is excited to welcome our brand new executive chef, Executive Chef Byron J Bondoc, to our team. Executive Chef Byron brings to the restaurant over 12+ years in the culinary industry. His passion for cooking began at a young age, inspired by his grandmother who brought secret recipes from her homeland of the Philippines. He served our country as a 3rd Class Petty Officer Culinary Specialist in the United States Navy on the USS Nimitz in San Diego, California. During that time he served as Watch Captain and his excellent culinary skills got him selected as an Assist to the Personal Chef of Admiral Malone, Commander of the Naval Air Forces. He was also awarded the Culinary Specialist of the Month in September 2003 at the USS Nimitz.
After his service in the Navy, Executive Chef Byron received his formal training at the Culinary Institute of America in New York, where he honed his culinary skills at the renowned French restaurant – Le Cirque. He trained under Le Cirque’s Executive Chef Pierre Schaedelin, who was also Personal Chef for Martha Stewart. Executive Chef Byron represented Le Cirque at the Taste of New York three consecutive years in a row. Upon graduation, he landed a position as the Executive Chef for Hilton Worldwide – Embassy Suites in Secaucus, New Jersey where he oversaw operations for the restaurant, bar, room service and banquets. When he came to Myrtle Beach, he found a job at the prestigious Members Club at Grande Dunes and Ocean Club at Grande Dunes. He assisted the Executive Chef with training staff and menu planning/execution for the club and major banquet events.
When it comes to the evolution of Executive Chef Byron’s cooking style, he has adopted and acquired many different international techniques. His time spent in the melting pot of New York allowed him to hone the flavors of Italian, French, Kiorean, Japanese, and more. He describes his cooking style as Classic French with an Asian and Hawaiian Fusion. Executive Chef Byron’s experience with all types of cooking techniques and exposure to flavors from around the world have led him to create unique specialty dishes featured nightly at WaterScapes Restaurant.
We invite you to come experience the delicious creations of our new Executive Chef Byron for yourself at the award-winning WaterScapes Restaurant in Marina Inn at Grande Dunes in Myrtle Beach!
